The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) is today hosting a stakeholder meeting for the tourism sector at Rainbow Hotel, Victoria Falls, under the theme “Shaping the Future, Changing the Narrative.” The event brings together key tourism industry players to discuss strategies for growth, policy improvements, and the future of tourism in Zimbabwe.

Organized by ZIMRA’s Revenue Assurance Division, the meeting aims to address revenue-related challenges affecting the tourism sector and explore viable solutions. It serves as a platform for industry players, policymakers, and tax experts to foster dialogue on improving tax compliance, streamlining revenue collection, and enhancing the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

Commissioner Revenue Assurance, Constance Shumbayawonda emphasized that tax compliance is a legal requirement, stating, “Compliance is not optional; it is a legal obligation.” She highlighted the crucial role taxation plays in economic development and encouraged tourism companies with outstanding tax obligations to establish proper payment plans with ZIMRA.

Shumbayawonda also reassured stakeholders that the Revenue Assurance Division’s role is “not to shut down businesses but to ensure compliance.” The division focuses on mobilizing domestic revenue while fostering a compliant and thriving business environment.

However, she revealed that ZIMRA will not hesitate to close out companies upon failure to pay tax.” Tax is for all of us, our desired goal is full compliance” she said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Revenue Assurance acknowledged that tourism is an integral part of Zimbabwe’s economy and emphasized the importance of compliance, stating that every single dollar must be accounted for.

In his presentation, Mr. St Muremba revealed that ZIMRA is encouraging all tourism players to pay their taxes and duties, contributing to the development of Zimbabwe.
