Zimbabwe Reaffirms Global Peacekeeping Role at UN Police Summit

Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to international peacekeeping, multilateral cooperation and collective security during the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) held in New York, United States.

Addressing global law enforcement leaders and senior UN officials, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe said Zimbabwe remains dedicated to strengthening international partnerships in response to evolving security challenges, including armed conflicts, transnational crime and other emerging threats to global stability.

The minister highlighted Zimbabwe’s distinguished record in United Nations peace operations, noting that the country has consistently contributed police personnel to UN missions across Africa, Asia and Europe since 1991. He said Zimbabwe’s continued participation reflects its enduring commitment to peacebuilding, conflict resolution and the promotion of international solidarity.

Kazembe also reiterated Zimbabwe’s support for the United Nations Women, Peace and Security agenda, emphasising the critical role of women in peacekeeping, conflict prevention and post-conflict recovery efforts. He said the country remains committed to advancing the meaningful participation of women in peace operations while strengthening the protection of vulnerable communities affected by conflict.

He stressed that the increasingly complex global security environment requires stronger international cooperation and coordinated responses, calling on nations to deepen collaboration in addressing both immediate threats and the root causes of insecurity.

The minister said lasting peace can only be achieved through collective action, mutual trust and sustained partnerships among nations, reaffirming Zimbabwe’s readiness to continue contributing to global efforts aimed at fostering peace, security and sustainable development.

Zimbabwe’s participation at UNCOPS 2026 underscores the country’s active role in international peace and security initiatives and its commitment to supporting the United Nations’ mission of maintaining global peace and stability.
