Zimbabwe Focuses on Sustainable Agriculture Amid Climate Change

Zimbabwe is taking proactive steps to ensure the sustainability of its agricultural sector in the face of climate change. Professor Orbet Jiri, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, stressed the need for modern irrigation systems to address shifting rainfall patterns.

Addressing the media, Professor Jiri acknowledged the challenges posed by climate change, including droughts and floods, and emphasized the importance of adopting resilient farming practices. He highlighted efforts to separate food production from unpredictable weather, promoting climate-proofing technologies such as pfumvudza/intwasa and advanced irrigation techniques.

These measures aim to strengthen Zimbabwe’s agricultural resilience and ensure consistent food production.
