Zimbabwe Experiences Normal to Above-Normal Rainfall

The Meteorological Services Department has reported normal to above-normal rainfall across the country, with downpours exceeding 50 millimeters expected nationwide.

Rainfall, which began in December 2024, is projected to continue into January 2025. Scattered thunderstorms are forecast for some areas between 5 and 8 January 2025. Recent rainfall data highlights Chinhoyi as recording the highest rainfall at 47mm, followed by Tsholotsho with 46mm and Plumtree with 45mm. Other areas, including Bulawayo Airport (21mm), Mutoko (41mm), and Wedza (20mm), have also recorded significant rainfall.

Based on the 29th Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-29) held in Harare last August, the Matabeleland region is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall. From November to January, the mean rainfall is anticipated to be 250mm, increasing to 150-450mm between January and March 2025.
