Zimbabwe Braces for a Week of Heavy Rainfall
Written by Staff Reporter on January 7, 2025
Zimbabwe is set to experience continuous heavy rainfall over the next seven days, marking an active phase of the 2024/25 rainy season.
Speaking to journalists, the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe, confirmed that the rains that started two days ago are only the beginning of an extended wet spell expected to persist throughout the week.
The Minister also cautioned the public to prioritize safety during the anticipated downpours. He urged citizens to take all necessary precautions to protect lives and property, emphasizing the importance of vigilance to prevent avoidable disasters such as flooding, electrocution, and road accidents.
Honourable Garwe made the remarks during a media briefing organized by the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services as part of its ongoing engagement between government officials and the press.
While the rains bring hope to farmers who rely on them for crop production, authorities are reminding citizens, especially those in low-lying areas, to remain alert and adhere to safety advisories to mitigate potential risks.
