Zimbabwe, Belarus Move Closer to Veterinary Vaccine Manufacturing Partnership

Written by on June 30, 2026

Zimbabwe and Belarus have advanced discussions on a proposed joint veterinary vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing partnership, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s animal health sector and reducing dependence on imported products.

Officials from the two countries have presented a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that sets out a framework for cooperation in the local production of veterinary vaccines and animal health medicines.

The initiative is expected to enhance livestock disease control, improve the availability of critical veterinary products and bolster Zimbabwe’s food security ambitions through a more resilient and self-sustaining agricultural sector.

By establishing local manufacturing capacity, Zimbabwe aims to lessen its reliance on imported vaccines and pharmaceuticals while promoting technology transfer, skills development and industrial growth within the veterinary health industry.

The draft agreement is now awaiting review by both governments before a final deal is concluded. Upcoming engagements are expected to focus on key implementation areas, including financing arrangements, infrastructure development and regulatory frameworks required to support the successful rollout of the project.

The proposed partnership forms part of broader efforts by Zimbabwe and Belarus to deepen economic and technical cooperation, particularly in sectors that support agricultural productivity and national development.
