In a spirited display of regional camaraderie and cross-border cooperation, police forces from the City of Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) and the City of Livingstone (Zambia) gathered today at the Victoria Falls Sports Club for a day of bilateral sports activities under the theme, Interaction Day with Police Through Fitness.
The event featured friendly competitions in football, netball, snooker , and tug of war, with participants from both nations enthusiastically engaging in the sporting challenges.
The primary objective of the day was to strengthen the relationship between the two police departments while fostering unity and collaboration in the fight against transnational crime.
This initiative builds upon previous joint efforts, including an anti-drug campaign held in April this year at the Victoria Falls border post on the Zambian side in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Commission. Authorities believe that such collaborations are key to combating cross-border crimes, particularly drug trafficking.
According to an official from the organizing committee, “Zimbabwe has been battling the growing scourge of illicit drugs and narcotics, which increasingly threatens the youth.
Events like these are crucial not only for fostering teamwork but also for promoting fitness and mental resilience”. Research suggests that physical exercise can enhance prefrontal cortex function, helping individuals resist harmful drug-related behaviors.
The sports day was commended for its coordination and the integration it encouraged between the two forces, with hopes for more such events in the future. The results are as follows:
Football: Zimbabwe 0 – 1 Zambia
Netball: Zimbabwe 18 – 52 Zambia
Snooker : Zimbabwe 7 – 1 Zambia
Tug of War:Zimbabwe 4 – 0 Zambia
Despite the competitive edge, the event was marked by good sportsmanship, laughter, and a renewed commitment to cross-border unity and security.
