Zim Urged to Join Global Week for Action on Non-Communicable Diseases

Written by on October 15, 2024

Zimbabwe is being called upon to actively participate in the Global Week for Action on Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs), running from today to the 22nd of October 2024. The campaign, focused on the theme of leadership, aligns with preparations for next year’s High-Level Meeting on NCDs.

Jacob Ngwenya, Director of the Zimbabwe NCDs Action Network (ZNAN), is urging stakeholders to take action against the growing threat of NCDs such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. These diseases account for 74% of global deaths, posing a significant challenge to public health.

The initiative aims to raise awareness, encourage accountability among governments, and mobilize action on NCD prevention and management. Citizens are encouraged to participate by signing an open letter urging governments to increase investment in NCD prevention.
