ZIFA Warns Against Unauthorised Use of Branding, Threatens Legal Action

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has issued a stern warning to individuals and organisations involved in the unauthorised use of its intellectual property, saying offenders risk facing legal action as the association moves to protect the integrity of its brand.

In a statement, ZIFA said it had noted a growing increase in the illegal use of its trademarks, including official logos, crests, names, slogans and branded merchandise, raising concern over activities that undermine the organisation’s commercial and legal rights.

The association also flagged the unauthorised use of ZIFA-related branding on social media platforms and online domains, saying some accounts and digital platforms are operating without official approval while falsely associating themselves with the football governing body.

ZIFA said the manufacture, sale, distribution, importation or exportation of merchandise bearing its trademarks without authorisation constitutes a violation of its intellectual property rights.

The association further warned that the publication, circulation or commercial use of ZIFA-related content without prior approval may also attract legal consequences under applicable laws.

Acting General Secretary Norman Mwandigwa said all individuals and entities engaged in unauthorised merchandising, branding or trademark-related activities have been directed to immediately cease operations and remove affected products from the market within seven days, by May 27, 2026.

ZIFA warned that failure to comply with the directive would trigger legal action without further notice, stressing that the crackdown is aimed at safeguarding the credibility of the association, protecting its commercial interests and preserving the image of Zimbabwean football.
