ZANU PF Backs President Mnangagwa Amid Term Limit Debate

Written by on May 29, 2025

ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, has addressed growing speculation regarding President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s potential continuation in office beyond his current constitutional term.

Speaking on behalf of the ruling party, Ambassador Mutsvangwa stated that ZANU PF members are satisfied with the president’s leadership and would welcome his continued stewardship until 2030.

However, he clarified that President Mnangagwa has consistently affirmed his commitment to constitutionalism, including adherence to presidential term limits.

Mutsvangwa criticized those advocating for early succession debates, labeling such moves as unconstitutional and disruptive to the party’s focus. He condemned individuals allegedly promoting unrest and engaging in interviews aimed at undermining the country’s constitutional framework.

He further emphasized that the president was elected to serve a full five-year term and must be allowed to focus on delivering his mandate. He noted that discussions on succession should be deferred until 2028, ahead of the next electoral cycle.
