The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development has called on wheat farmers to accelerate planting efforts to take full advantage of the current optimal window.
With over 60,000 hectares planted so far half of the 120,000-hectare target Permanent Secretary Professor Obert Jiri stressed the urgency of completing planting to maximize yields.
In a recent statement, Prof. Jiri warned that delays could expose crops to frost and erratic rainfall, adding that timely planting is crucial for a successful harvest.
He also urged farmers to fast-track maize harvesting to free up land for wheat, allowing them to make the most of the winter planting season.
Prof. Jiri emphasized that efficient planting not only boosts individual productivity but also supports the broader agricultural sector’s growth.
