Victoria Falls Hosts Netball Tournament to Commemorate World Aids Day

Mosi Oa Tunya High School in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, played host to a thrilling netball tournament featuring teams from Kasambabezi, Mosi Queens, and Monde Queens. The event was part of the World Aids Day Awareness Campaign and Ball Games celebration.
According to Mr. Mosi Nowakhe, Chairperson of the Zambezi Netball Association, the tournament aimed to unite teams and foster a sense of family among the girl children. “We want to encourage parents to take care of their girl children and keep them occupied, so they don’t fall into bad habits like drug abuse,” he said.
Mr. Nowakhe also encouraged girl children to engage in projects like sewing, chicken-keeping, and selling to stay occupied. He emphasized the importance of empowering girl children to become self-sufficient and confident individuals.
The event was joined by Ms. Rejoice Ncube, a registered General Nurse from Victoria Falls Hospital. She took the opportunity to educate women about HIV
Ms. Ncube also stressed the importance of knowing one’s HIV status and that of their partners to avoid the risk of transmission. She encouraged those living with HIV to adhere to their medication to lead happy and healthy lives.
The tournament provided a platform for the teams to showcase their skills and compete in a friendly and supportive environment. The event was well-attended by parents, teachers, and community members who came to cheer on the teams.
The tournament was to award the winning teams with prizes . The event organizers expressed their gratitude to the teams, officials, and sponsors who made the event possible.
As the world marked World Aids Day, the netball tournament served as a reminder of the importance of promoting awareness, education, and prevention of HIV and AIDS, particularly among young people.
