The United States Embassy and the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) have celebrated the successful completion of a project to digitize the Museum of Human Sciences’ collection.
The project, funded by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), involved the development of a cloud-based database to manage and share the at-risk collections at the Museum of Human Sciences.
Speaking during the commisioning ceremony yesterday, US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pamela Tremont said that this digital database will not only protect the museum’s valuable artifacts but also make them accessible to researchers, scholars, and the public worldwide.
The collaboration between Zimbabwean and American experts has ensured that the database meets international standards and is user-friendly.
Since 2007, the American people, through AFCP, have invested US$950 000 in the documentation, conservation, and restoration of key heritage sites, artifacts, and traditions in Zimbabwe, of which $846,000 have been for projects with NMMZ.
