Victoria Falls City Council hosts Sustainability Monograph Development Workshop

The Victoria Falls City Council hosted a pivotal workshop running under the theme “Practical Steps Towards Green City Vision,” focusing on the development of a sustainability monograph. This event, held at Cresta Sprayview Hotel, brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, environmental experts, and community leaders, to discuss and strategize on sustainable urban development.

The primary objective of the workshop was to outline practical steps towards achieving a green city vision for Victoria Falls. The discussions centered around sustainable practices, renewable energy, waste management, and urban planning. The event aimed to create a comprehensive sustainability monograph that would serve as a blueprint for future development projects in the city.

The workshop featured speakers from various disciplines , including  the Deputy Mayor of Victoria Falls Lungile Nyoni, environmental scientists, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. Sessions covered a range of topics such as Renewable Energy Solutions that is exploring solar and wind energy options to reduce the city’s carbon footprint. Waste Management Strategies Implementing effective recycling programs and reducing landfill use. Urban Green Spaces in enhancing parks and recreational areas to improve air quality and community well-being and also sustainable transportation in promoting the use of vehicles and improving public transportation infrastructure.

Community involvement was a significant aspect of the workshop. Mr. Anglistone Sibanda encouraged residents to participate in discussions and provide feedback on proposed initiatives. This collaborative approach ensured that the sustainability monograph would reflect the needs and aspirations of the local community.

The workshop concluded with the drafting of a preliminary sustainability monograph, which will be refined and finalized in the coming months. The Victoria Falls City Council committed to implementing the strategies discussed and monitoring progress towards the green city vision. Future workshops and community engagement sessions are planned to ensure continuous improvement and adaptation of the sustainability initiatives.

The “Practical Steps Towards Green City Vision” workshop marked a significant step forward in Victoria Falls’ journey towards sustainable urban development. By fostering collaboration and innovation, the city aims to become a model of environmental stewardship and resilience in Zimbabwe.
