Urgent Call for Justice and Representation for Africa
Written by Staff Reporter on February 25, 2025
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a strong call for justice and greater representation for Africa, citing the continent’s long history of colonization, apartheid, and the transatlantic slave trade.
Speaking at the recent African Union (AU) summit, Guterres stressed that the effects of these historical injustices continue to impact Africans and people of African descent. He noted that despite political independence, many African nations remain trapped in systems of exploitation and economic marginalization.
Guterres also urged the establishment of reparations frameworks in line with the AU’s 2025 theme: Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.
