UNHRC 58th Session Officially Opens in Geneva

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) 58th Session has officially opened in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on a wide range of human rights issues. Key topics include the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the question of the death penalty, and the rights of persons with disabilities.
Officially opening the session, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the importance of upholding and respecting human rights.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, highlighted the critical role of human rights in preserving human dignity. He also commended human rights activists worldwide for their dedication and significant contributions.
The 58th Session, running from 24 February to 4 April, will bring together human rights advocates and global leaders. Discussions will cover key issues such as the annual high-level panel on human rights mainstreaming, early warning and genocide prevention, and the judiciary’s role in advancing human rights and addressing the death penalty.
