The Unlikely Lensman: Balloe’s Journey to Capturing Victoria Falls’ Beauty

In the vibrant town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, a young photographer has emerged, defying conventions and captivating audiences. Balloe, a talented visual storyteller, never envisioned photography as his calling. His journey began unexpectedly, fueled by lockdown boredom and a passion for music videos.

During college, Balloe’s peers admired his smartphone photography skills. Lockdown provided the catalyst for exploration, and he discovered his creative voice through music videos. However, his path was fraught with challenges such as financial constraints, lack of equipment, sabotage, and limited experience. Undeterred, Balloe persevered, relying on determination.

Notably, Balloe collaborated with Zambian professionals and worked alongside prominent Zimbabwean celebrities, capturing electrifying live shows featuring Silent Killer, Chillmaster, Enzo Ishall, Holy Ten, and Abisher Palmer. These experiences honed his skills and expanded his network. His approach emphasizes storytelling and angels, adopting a point-and-shoot style. Experimentation with portrait photography and filmmaking broadens his artistic scope.

His recognition has been bittersweet due to clients’ comparison critiques and limited financial gains temper his success. Yet, Balloe remains steadfast.

To aspiring photographers, he advises perseverance through darkness, avoiding comparisons, and staying patient. His aspirations include short films, diversification, and personal storytelling.

Through humility and self-discovery, Balloe navigates complexities. Photography serves as refuge from depression, balancing business and art.
