Tawanda Mawere, the director of Apex Security in Beitbridge, has been fined $100 for possessing an unlicensed firearm in a public place.
Mawere, 42, from Rhodesville, Harare, was in Beitbridge on 27 July when police received a tip-off that he was carrying a firearm at Nottingham Bar.
Police arrived at the location, found Mawere, and questioned him about the weapon. Mawere revealed the firearm but could not produce a license for public carry or proof of registration in his name.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mawere was arrested for violating the Firearms Act, and the weapon was confiscated. The Beitbridge court has ordered him to pay a USD$100 fine by the 15th of November or face a 20-day jail sentence.
