The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has pledged its support to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as the country faces ongoing conflict.

Zimbabwean President and SADC Chairperson Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa made the commitment during the closing of the Extraordinary SADC Summit held in Harare yesterday.

The summit received reports from the Southern African Development Community Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC), highlighting the urgent need for assistance. The discussions focused on implementing practical measures to address security challenges in the DRC.

The conflict, which erupted in 2023 after the country’s elections, has escalated into a prolonged battle between the DRC military and rebel groups. SADC leaders emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in restoring peace and stability to the troubled nation.
