Earlier today, the SADC Troika Heads of State and Government Summit took place at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, with regional leaders convening to address critical security and political issues.
Chaired by His Excellency Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, on behalf of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, the summit focused primarily on the future of the SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC).
With its mandate set to expire on 15 December 2024, discussions centered on the mission’s next steps in ensuring continued regional stability.
Following the conclusion of the Troika Summit, the Extra-Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government is now underway, as leaders continue their deliberations on security and political cooperation in the region.
