SADC Secretariat Congratulates New AU Chairperson

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat has congratulated His Excellency Mahamoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti on his election as the new African Union (AU) Chairperson, along with his deputy, Ambassador Selma Malika Hadadi.
The election took place on Sunday at the AU annual summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Youssouf won against Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Madagascar’s former Foreign Minister Richard Randriamandrato.
He succeeds Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad, who served two terms as AU Commission Chairperson.
