SADC Firmly Refutes Allegations by Alliance Flauve Congo/M23

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has strongly denied allegations made by the Alliance Flauve Congo/March 23 Movement (M23) regarding the involvement of its Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) in joint military operations.

In a communiqué issued on 12 April, M23 claimed that SAMIDRC collaborated with the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), and the Wazalendo militia in Goma against their forces.

In response, SADC categorically dismissed the claims as inaccurate and misleading, stating that SAMIDRC has not engaged in any joint military operations as alleged.

The organization further clarified that SAMIDRC is currently conducting a structured and coordinated withdrawal from the DRC, following directives from the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government. It also reaffirmed its commitment to the agreements made during its consultative engagement with M23 leadership on 28 March 2025.

SADC urged all parties involved to act responsibly, avoid spreading misinformation, and work together toward de-escalation and the restoration of peace in eastern DRC.
