President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has dismissed Dr. Sithembiso G. G. Nyoni from her position as Minister of Environment, Climate, and Wildlife with immediate effect.
The decision, announced today, was made under Section 340(1)(f) and Section 108(1)(a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. However, no official reason has been provided for her dismissal, and the President’s Office has yet to announce her replacement.
Dr. Nyoni, a seasoned politician and senior member of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), was appointed to the ministry in September 2023. Prior to that, she served as Minister of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development.
A long-serving government official, Dr. Nyoni has held public office since 1995 and has represented Nkayi North in Parliament since 2008. She is also the founder of the Organisation of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP), a development initiative focused on supporting rural communities.
Her removal marks a significant shift within the government, raising speculation about the future leadership of the ministry as the nation awaits a new appointment.
