NACZ Encourages Independent Arts Sectors to Create Dedicated Awards

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has called on independent arts sectors to establish their own dedicated awards ceremonies. This initiative aims to provide a broader recognition for all artistic disciplines across the country.
Speaking at a press conference on the preparations for the 23rd National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), NACZ Executive Director, Napoleon Nyanhi, explained that the current NAMA framework cannot comprehensively cover every artistic discipline.
Nyanhi emphasized that NAMA currently encompasses 40 awards, a number already challenging to manage effectively, and believes that specialized awards ceremonies focusing on individual disciplines, like theatre, visual arts, or literature, would allow for more in-depth recognition and celebration of achievements within those specific fields.
The 23rd NAMA ceremony is scheduled for 1 March at the Hippodrome in Harare. This year’s event will celebrate outstanding creative work across various disciplines, including film, music, dance, theatre, and poetry.
