Matopos Road Rehabilitation Completed After Delays, Bringing Relief to Bulawayo Motorists
Written by Staff Reporter on July 7, 2026
Motorists and residents in Bulawayo are set to benefit from smoother traffic movement and improved road safety following the completion of rehabilitation works on a section of Matopos Road between 23rd Avenue and Moffat Avenue.
The project, which was undertaken by ZADA Construction Company, reached completion during the first week of July, ending months of uncertainty after missing its original deadline.
The road had initially been scheduled for completion ahead of the country’s Independence Day celebrations on April 18. However, progress slowed significantly after the commemorations, leaving parts of the route unfinished and triggering frustration among motorists, commuters and businesses operating along the busy corridor.
Construction activities resumed in late May, with crews undertaking the remaining surfacing and finishing works before handing over the completed section.
The rehabilitation of the road is expected to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion and improve safety for road users along one of Bulawayo’s key transport links.
The development forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade urban road infrastructure and improve the efficiency of the city’s transport network.
