Stakeholders from Matabeleland North Province gathered in Bulawayo yesterday to review progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS. During the meeting, Sibongile Shumba, the NAC Programme Officer for Mat North, presented the first quarter 2025 programme performance.
According to Shumba, HIV prevention remains a top priority in the province, with notable success in reducing new infections. In the first quarter, 666,844 condoms were distributed—97.1% of them male condoms (647,769) and 2.9% female condoms (19,075).
The province also recorded progress in HIV testing. Of clients presenting with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at health facilities, 83% were tested for HIV. Among them, 585 already knew their status, while 111 tested reactive.
The stakeholders’ meeting reflected the province’s commitment to combating HIV/AIDS through evidence-based interventions and strategic partnerships. These collaborative efforts aim to further reduce new infections and improve the overall well-being of residents.
