Man Steals R1600 to Fund Beer and Wife, Gets 6-Month Sentence

Mengesi Sibanda, a man from Tsholotsho, has been sentenced to 6 months in prison for burglary after stealing ZAR 1,600 to fund his beer consumption and provide for his wife.
On 9 January 2025, Sibanda unlawfully entered a complainant’s home and took the money. He gave ZAR 1,500 to Zikhiye Ncube, who took it to Sibanda’s wife in South Africa, while Sibanda spent the remaining ZAR 100 on beer.
Initially sentenced to 12 months, 6 months were suspended on the condition of restitution.
