Malawian Nationals Arrested at Beitbridge Border Post

Twenty Malawian nationals, aged between 20 to 42, were arrested on 17 November 2024 at the Beitbridge border post for entering Zimbabwe without proper documentation. Police officers on patrol apprehended the group, which failed to produce valid papers justifying their presence in the country.
The individuals appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court, where they were charged with contravening the Immigration Act. They were sentenced to pay a USD 30 fine or face 13 days in prison if they default on payment.
The region has seen a rise in such cases. In October 2024, four Burundian nationals were arrested for traveling without valid documentation and similarly charged. Authorities have since reiterated the need for strict enforcement of immigration laws.
