IMF Launches Critical Economic Assessment Mission to Zimbabwe

The International Monetary Fund has dispatched a high-level mission to Zimbabwe to evaluate the country’s economic recovery and its efforts to reengage with the global financial community.
The mission focuses on Article IV consultations and progress under the Staff Monitoring Program, which forms part of Zimbabwe’s arrears clearance strategy.
Speaking during the launch of the mission, Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said the assessment would focus on evaluating the economic landscape, reviewing development progress, preparing the mid-term budget, and shaping the strategy for the upcoming fiscal year. He added that aligning macroeconomic frameworks with National Development Strategy 2 and Vision 2030 was a priority.
IMF Mission Chief Wojciech Maliszewski said Zimbabwe had made commendable progress in stabilizing the local currency, improving foreign exchange market operations, and maintaining fiscal discipline, which developments seen as key indicators of reform.
The government views the mission as a critical step toward unlocking international financial support and boosting investor confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic agenda.
