Hundreds Participate in ‘Walk Green, Walk Clean’ Initiative in Victoria Falls

Hundreds of people gathered in Victoria Falls today to take part in the Mayor’s Cheer Fund Sponsored Walk, covering a distance of 50km. The event, themed ‘Walk Green, Walk Clean’, aimed to promote environmental conservation and cleanliness in the city and raise funds for underprivileged community members.

The walk commenced at around 5 a.m. at the 50km peg and concluded at the Victoria Falls City Council. Participants actively collected waste along the highway, contributing significantly to the community’s environmental efforts.

Mrs. Sithembile Ncube, a local resident who participated in the walk, expressed her enthusiasm for environmental conservation. “As a resident of Victoria Falls, I feel it’s my responsibility to contribute to the beautification of our city. This walk is a great initiative, and I’m happy to be a part of it,” she said.

Mr. Mgcini Moyo, the Program’s Director of Youth Invest, who participated with some of the youth, highlighted the event’s broader impact. “As a Programs Director, I believe it’s essential to give back to the community and teach the youth how to keep our environment clean, not forgetting that Victoria Falls is a tourist destination. This walk is a great way to do that,” he remarked.

Mr. Douglas Musiringofa, representing the Pristine Victoria Falls Society, extended his gratitude to all participants. “Your efforts will go a long way in keeping our environment clean and beautiful. Let’s continue to work together to make Victoria Falls a better place for all of us,” he said.

The ‘Walk Green, Walk Clean’ initiative is part of the Mayor’s Cheer Fund’s efforts to promote environmental conservation and cleanliness in Victoria Falls, striving to create a cleaner and more beautiful environment for residents and tourists alike.
