A 47 year old man from Hwange was arraigned before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing physical abuse charges.
The court heard that on the 29th of June 2024, at around 10am, the complainant (44) asked her husband, the accused person, to buy ice cream for their daughter, and he claimed he had no money.
The conversation escalated into an altercation that turned violent wherein the accused person charged towards the complainant and strangled her with his hands. The accused person only released the complainant and fled when he heard their neighbours approaching.
The accused person was sentenced to pay a fine of USD400 not later than 30 August 2024 or 3 months imprisonment in default of payment. Further 3 months were wholly suspended for 5 years.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe encourages members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
