Written by on July 24, 2024

His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, is set to officially open the inaugural Regional UN Gastronomy Conference and deliver the keynote address on Friday, 26 July 2024, in Victoria Falls.

The conference is being held in light of the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa’s program to market Zimbabwe through its food, which is gaining recognition locally and internationally.

The initiative aims to promote Zimbabwean cuisine and highlight Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage.

Gastronomy tourism is emerging as a vital tool for preserving cultural norms and values, as well as alleviating poverty in rural areas.

By promoting local food, gastronomy tourism creates job opportunities and stimulates local economies.

The UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa will bring together international experts and destinations to explore the potential of gastronomy tourism.

The forum aims to share knowledge, best practices, and harness the power of gastronomy tourism for the benefit of local communities and the environment, fostering regional cohesion and resilience.

This inaugural conference is a significant step towards promoting Zimbabwe’s culinary delights and cultural heritage, while also contributing to the country’s economic development.
