Highlanders, FC Platinum Set for Explosive Barbourfields Showdown
Written by Staff Reporter on May 7, 2025
Bulawayo giants Highlanders FC and former champions FC Platinum are set to renew their rivalry in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match-day 11 showdown at Barbourfields Stadium this Sunday.
Tensions remain high between the two sides following violent scenes that led to the abandonment of their back-to-back fixtures in 2022. FC Platinum emerged dominant in last season’s encounters, winning both home and away, a record Highlanders will be eager to overturn as they aim to build on last week’s 2-0 win over Yadah.
FC Platinum, currently eighth with 14 points, are seeking a turnaround after a string of draws, including a goalless stalemate against Ngezi Platinum in the recent Platinum derby. Highlanders sit fourth on 17 points and are hoping to keep their title charge on course.
Elsewhere on match-day 11, log leaders MWOS face TelOne at Ngoni Stadium, Kwekwe United host Chicken Inn at Bata, and Green Fuel take on Manica Diamonds at Green Fuel Arena. CAPS United clash with Herentals at Rufaro, Ngezi Platinum welcome ZPC Kariba to Baobab, while Bikita Minerals host Yadah at Gibbo Stadium.
Sunday’s action wraps up with newly promoted Scottland battling champions Simba Bhora at Rufaro and Triangle facing Dynamos at Gibbo.
