Govt to Compensate Farmers Affected by Land Reform Program

Written by on October 17, 2024

The government is set to compensate farmers whose land was acquired during the 2000 land reform program, with payments scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2024 and continue into 2025.

On the 16th of October, Minister of Finance, Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, announced that USD $20 million has been allocated for compensation. Payments will be made after a verification process to clear all outstanding liabilities under the global compensation deed.

This compensation follows Zimbabwe’s land reform initiative, which began in 1980 and intensified in 2000.

The reform sought to address historical inequalities in land ownership, particularly benefiting veterans of the country’s independence war.
