The government, through the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, hosted a data protection symposium in Harare to explore strategies for enhancing privacy and security.
Held under the theme “Bridging Technology Policy, Law, and Practice: Strengthening Data Protection in Zimbabwe,” the event was organized in partnership with POTRAZ. It focused on advancing technological and legal frameworks to safeguard personal data while modernizing ICT infrastructure.
In her keynote address, ICT Minister Tatenda A. Mavetera acknowledged the benefits of technology but warned of the rising threat of cybercrime. She stressed the need for stronger data protection measures to shield individuals from digital risks.
With artificial intelligence expected to pose new challenges, the two-day symposium will explore ways to align Zimbabwe’s data protection policies with international standards while ensuring citizens’ privacy rights are upheld.
