The International Renewable Energy Conference & Expo 2025, held at the majestic Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls, brought together key energy sector stakeholders for a series of high-level, solution-driven discussions focused on building a sustainable, inclusive, and energy-secure future for Zimbabwe and the region.
Delegates from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), International Renewable Energy Conference and Expo (IRECE), the SADC Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Jinko Solar, the Rural Electrification Fund (REF), and the Ministry of Energy and Power Development participated in insightful sessions designed to assess national progress and galvanize cross-sector collaboration.
Representatives from ZERA highlighted the importance of a responsive regulatory framework that enables private sector participation while safeguarding national energy interests. The authority outlined current efforts to streamline licensing processes and enforce standards that ensure quality and sustainability in renewable energy deployment.
The SADC Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme shared regional best practices and underscored the need for industrial sectors to adopt energy-efficient technologies to reduce operational costs and environmental impact. Their presentation resonated with Zimbabwean manufacturing and mining stakeholders seeking to optimize energy use while remaining competitive.
Jinko Solar, one of the world’s leading solar technology companies, showcased the latest in photovoltaic innovation tailored for the African context. Their engagement with local partners aims to increase access to affordable, high-performance solar solutions across Zimbabwe.
The Rural Electrification Fund (REF) gave a compelling update on its work to light up rural Zimbabwe. The Fund reported ongoing successes in powering schools, clinics, and villages through solar mini-grids and standalone systems, a move that is bridging the energy access gap in previously underserved areas.
UNDP reinforced the critical role of sustainable energy in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stressing the need for inclusive financing models and capacity building to empower communities and support low-carbon development pathways.
The IRECE Representative lauded the collaborative spirit of the conference and emphasized the value of continued dialogue between government, development partners, industry leaders, and communities in shaping a resilient energy landscape.
As the conference continues, delegates remain aligned in their shared vision: to power Zimbabwe’s development through smart investment, inclusive partnerships, and forward-thinking energy strategies that leave no one behind.
