The Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, S.Sibanda’s address at Lupane State University highlighted a visionary approach to integrating tourism into Zimbabwe’s educational framework.
This initiative aims to empower youth and women, foster economic growth, and promote cultural exchange through tourism.
By incorporating tourism-related subjects into the curriculum, students can gain practical skills and develop entrepreneurial mindsets, contributing meaningfully to the nation’s tourism industry. Deputy Minister Sibanda emphasized that tourism is a multifaceted sector offering numerous opportunities, not just limited to sightseeing.
The Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development,also stressed the importance of innovative marketing strategies to attract visitors and showcase Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and warm hospitality.
He highlighted the need for a peaceful environment for the tourism industry to thrive and the role of education in promoting peace and understanding.
The Deputy Minister, also encouraged educators and students to embrace new ideas and explore unconventional approaches, fostering a culture of innovation and critical thinking. He announced plans to integrate the Education 5.0 framework into the tourism curriculum, aiming to decolonize the tourism industry and reflect Zimbabwean values and aspirations.
Finally, the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, called for greater collaboration between educational institutions and industry partners to provide students with hands-on experience and internships in the tourism sector.
This practical approach aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to position Zimbabwe as a leading tourism destination.
