Countering Systemic Racism Key to Ending AIDS Epidemic, UNAIDS Deputy Chief

UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director Achrekar Angeli has emphasized the need to address systemic racism as a crucial step in ending the AIDS epidemic as a public health issue.

Speaking at the 58th United Nations Human Rights Council, Angeli stressed that tackling structural inequalities is essential to combatting AIDS effectively.

She further highlighted that efforts to end AIDS must uphold dignity, social justice, and human rights, ensuring that those living with HIV can do so free from stigma and discrimination.

Meanwhile, National AIDS Councils (NACs) have made notable progress in expanding treatment access, reducing new infections, and raising awareness.
