Bishop Lazarus Mpande Khanye, an executive member of the supervisory council, has emphasized the need for women empowerment in Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the SADC People’s Summit, Khanye stressed that women should be able to work independently without relying on men for support.
Khanye highlighted the resilience of women who work tirelessly to earn a living and advocated for opportunities to be given to them to make meaningful impacts in their communities.
He further suggested that women should be allocated mines and farms to work on, enabling them to become self-sufficient.
Khanye also called on SADC to develop policies supporting women in cross-border trading, ensuring their safety and profitability. This comes as statistics reveal that 85% of women in rural areas are unemployed and dependent on their husbands for financial support, while 47% of women work as street vendors with minimal daily profits.
