27-year-old Arnold Ncube, from Thatsilikiti Village in Beitbridge, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for stealing three donkeys valued at US$300 from a local villager.
The Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court found Ncube guilty of unlawfully taking the animals from 67-year-old Dowelani Mulaudzi of Masumpa Village in April 2025.
He later sold the donkeys in Plumtree.
While the court initially handed down a four-month custodial sentence, a previously suspended six-month sentence for a similar offense was activated, bringing the total time he will serve to 10 months.
Ncube was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after he attempted to sell one of the stolen donkeys, still bearing its brand mark, in Capfuche Village.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reiterated its call for rural communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as part of efforts to curb stock theft.
