The Beitbridge Regional Court has sentenced a 42-year-old man from Juta Village Two under Chief Sitaudze to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment after convicting him of raping his 19-year-old former girlfriend.

Court proceedings revealed that on 16 May 2026, the offender unlawfully entered the young woman’s home and sexually assaulted her while she was alone.

Following the attack, the victim, assisted by her aunt, reported the matter to the Zimbabwe Republic Police at Lutumba Base, triggering investigations that led to the man’s arrest and prosecution.

The State presented compelling evidence before the court, including a medical report from Beitbridge Hospital and forensic findings that corroborated the victim’s account of the incident.

After considering the evidence, the Regional Court found the accused guilty and imposed a 15-year custodial sentence, underscoring the judiciary’s commitment to dealing firmly with sexual offences and ensuring justice for survivors of gender-based violence.
