As the Southern African Development Community (SADC) prepares for the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day on 25 October, African Union chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed concerns over the sanctions imposed by Western countries on Zimbabwe.
He emphasized that the restrictions have hindered the country’s socioeconomic development.
The President of the Republic of Congo, His Excellency J.M.G Lourenço, also urged the removal of sanctions on Zimbabwe, as well as the embargo against Cuba.
His call was echoed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who highlighted that the sanctions are disproportionately affecting ordinary Zimbabweans.
SADC Anti-Sanctions Day 2024 will be observed under the theme “Embracing Innovation towards Vision 2030: The Relentless Fight Against Illegal Sanctions.” This day is dedicated to rallying leaders and citizens to advocate for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western nations.
