September Sports Tourism Carnival to Become Annual Event

September is set to become a permanent fixture on Zimbabwe’s sports tourism calendar, with the Government announcing that the September Sports Tourism Carnival will now be held annually.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi made the announcement during a golf tournament at Masvingo Golf Club, held as part of activities leading to the 19th Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo.

Deputy Minister Tongai Mnangagwa said sports tourism was a major driver of tourism as sporting events attract participants and supporters, boosting demand for accommodation, food, shopping and other tourism services.

He said the activities had drawn thousands of people to Masvingo, demonstrating the wider economic benefits of using sport to promote domestic tourism.
