The Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company has commissioned its new offices at Jafuta Estate in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone, marking another step in Victoria Falls’ drive to expand tourism infrastructure and attract investment.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi presided over the commissioning ceremony on Monday, where she announced plans for further office developments and highlighted the strategic importance of Masuwe as a tourism investment hub.

Established in 2012, Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company was incorporated to spearhead tourism infrastructure development in Victoria Falls, with a mandate to transform its property holdings into a world-class integrated tourism resort.

The Masuwe Special Economic Zone, located on the outskirts of Victoria Falls, forms part of the wider destination development strategy. The 1,200-hectare zone is planned to accommodate a central business district, hotels, villas, holiday homes, a golf estate, medical tourism facilities, a civic centre, sports facilities, an international finance centre, a duty-free trade zone, a hotel school and conference facilities.

The newly commissioned offices at Jafuta Estate occupy part of a 271-hectare development site linked to a public-private partnership with the J.R. Goddard Consortium.

Minister Rwodzi said the consortium would provide road infrastructure within the development under a US$66.9 million partnership agreement approved by the Government.

“There shall be a big block of offices here. Works will start by November 1,” Rwodzi said.

She added that improved infrastructure was critical as Victoria Falls prepares to host Cricket World Cup matches in 2027, with efficient movement of visitors and spectators expected to be a key priority.

“The city will be hosting the Cricket World Cup next year and it is expected that patrons and visitors have swift movement next year,” she said.

The development comes as Victoria Falls expands its sports tourism infrastructure, with the Mosi-oa-Tunya Cricket Stadium, spearheaded by Zimbabwe Cricket, nearing completion ahead of the global tournament.

The commissioning also marks a shift for Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company, which had previously operated from Sawanga Mall in the city centre.

Government officials, company board members and other stakeholders attended the ceremony, reflecting the growing public and private sector interest in infrastructure development within the resort city.

Beyond the new offices, the wider Masuwe project is expected to create opportunities for investment across hospitality, property development, transport, retail and supporting services. Its success will depend on the timely delivery of infrastructure and the ability to attract investors to turn the planned facilities into operational businesses.

As Victoria Falls continues to strengthen its position as an international tourism destination, developments such as Masuwe are expected to play an important role in broadening the city’s economic base beyond traditional tourism activities.
