Vice President Kembo Mohadi yesterday commissioned the state-of-the-art Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Clinic in Gwanda, describing the facility as a major milestone in expanding access to quality healthcare and strengthening medical service delivery in Matabeleland South Province.
Officially opening the clinic, VP Mohadi said the development represents a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility for communities that have long travelled considerable distances to access medical attention, particularly women, children, and vulnerable groups.
He said the facility would play a pivotal role in easing the healthcare burden in Gwanda and surrounding communities while complementing Government efforts to provide affordable, efficient and accessible health services in line with the country’s national development agenda and Vision 2030.
VP Mohadi commended businessman Cde Jimayi Muduvuri and the Muduvuri Pan African Referral Hospital team for investing in healthcare infrastructure and partnering Government in efforts aimed at transforming the country’s health sector.
He said such investments underscore the importance of public-private partnerships in strengthening healthcare systems and improving the quality of life for citizens.
The Vice President also applauded the decision to name the clinic after the late nationalist icon, Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, describing it as a befitting tribute to one of Zimbabwe’s foremost liberation heroes whose enduring legacy of unity, peace and nation-building continues to inspire generations.
“Dr Joshua Nkomo dedicated his life to the liberation, unity and development of this country. Naming this clinic in his honour reflects our commitment to preserving his legacy while serving the people,” said VP Mohadi.
He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to accelerating reforms in the health sector to ensure equitable access to affordable healthcare services across the country before officially declaring the clinic commissioned.
The newly commissioned health facility is expected to ease pressure on existing institutions while bringing critical medical services closer to communities in Gwanda and neighbouring areas, marking a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the province.
