President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially sworn in Elizabeth Gwaunza as Zimbabwe’s Chief Justice and Paddington Garwe as Deputy Chief Justice during a high-level ceremony held at State House.

The ceremony also marked the swearing in of a new Auditor-General and members of the Health Service Commission as government intensifies efforts to strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery across key sectors.

Officials said the appointments form part of broader institutional reforms aimed at enhancing governance, reinforcing accountability, and improving efficiency within the justice system and public administration structures.

Chief Justice Gwaunza and Deputy Chief Justice Garwe now take up leadership of Zimbabwe’s judiciary at a time when authorities say the country is prioritising reforms designed to strengthen the rule of law, judicial effectiveness, and public confidence in state institutions.

Government officials described the appointments as significant in advancing ongoing efforts to modernise public service systems and support national development through stronger and more responsive institutions.
