The government has pledged one million United States dollars towards Zimbabwe’s HIV response, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable health financing and reduced reliance on external support.
Speaking during World AIDS Day commemorations in Bulawayo recently, Provincial Medical Director Dr Maphios Siamuchembu said the funding has been set aside for the Global Fund’s eighth grant cycle, GC8, following Zimbabwe’s full contribution to the previous cycle.
Dr Siamuchembu said the investment demonstrates shared responsibility in protecting gains made in HIV prevention, treatment and care, particularly at a time when global funding disruptions continue to threaten health systems.
He added that domestic financing, alongside partnerships with development agencies, remains critical to maintaining treatment coverage, strengthening health services and ensuring no one is left behind in the journey towards HIV elimination.
