The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as the regional bloc convenes for an important summit in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the SADC Ministerial Committee meeting of the Organ Troika, SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi urged all armed groups and opposing forces in the DRC to honor the truce and cease hostilities.
The summit, chaired by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is focused on addressing the worsening security situation in Eastern DRC. This meeting serves as part of a series of high-level discussions ahead of the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.
During the summit, the SADC Organ Troika Ministerial Committee and the Organ Troika Summit will review recommendations from earlier sessions and assess the region’s broader security landscape, with a particular emphasis on the DRC crisis.
