ZPCS to Convert Former Killing Sites into Museums

Written by on January 17, 2025

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Commissioner General, Dr. Moses Cyril Chihobvu, has revealed plans to transform former killing sites into museums. The initiative follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s abolition of the death penalty, marking a shift toward a more humane justice system.

President Mnangagwa signed the Death Penalty Abolition Bill into law on 31 December 2024, over a year after its introduction in parliament. The Senate passed the Bill on 12 December 2024.

The museums are expected to promote tourism and generate revenue for ZPCS, while fostering public dialogue on justice and human rights. Dr. Chihobvu hailed the development as a milestone in reshaping Zimbabwe’s correctional services.
