Zimbabwe will next week host the SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas International Conference and Summit in Harare, as the region marks 25 years of joint efforts in biodiversity protection and sustainable development.
Running from the 19th to the 23rd of May, the summit is expected to reinforce political will and investment in a unified approach to natural resource management across Southern Africa.
It will focus on the political, economic, and environmental importance of Transfrontier Conservation Areas, which promote cross-border cooperation in conserving biodiversity, supporting eco-tourism, and ensuring sustainable resource use.
Outcomes of the summit are expected to include a regional action plan, new binding agreements for additional conservation areas, and joint frameworks for management and financing between SADC member states and international partners.
